Community-building spaces foster a sense of belonging and collective resilience, offering opportunities for healing, professional growth, and rejuvenation.

Why it Matters

POCIE recognizes that BIPOC professionals in environmental, climate, and conservation movements disproportionately face discrimination, microaggressions, and systemic barriers that white colleagues may not experience.

This could look like:
  • Having their voices marginalized
  • Contributions being undervalued
  • Perspectives ignored in decision-making spaces

Persistent inequity can lead to burnout, stress, and frustration. POCIE builds dedicated spaces where BIPOC professionals can connect, share experiences, and find support from peers who understand their unique struggles.

How We Build Community with Events

We are committed to helping our community lead from a place of strength and solidarity.

Through intentional gatherings, we ensure that BIPOC professionals in our field have spaces to:
  • Be heard and valued
  • Recharge and prioritize well-being
  • Celebrate their contributions to the movement
